What is your browser's default home page set to?
Submitted by Kelev T. Cat.
I have no idea. Like all the cool kids out there I use Firefox and have loaded a select few extensions to make my life easier. (Note to self - listing off extensions as future blog post)
One of my favorite extensions is Tab Mix Plus which gives me all sorts of nifty options on what I can do with my browser: recover closed tabs, rearrange or modify the appearance of existing tabs, even adjusting the default options on how and where tabs open. However, my favorite, and most cursed option is the session saver. Every time I open Firefox, I get back all the tabs I'd just closed out of.
This means every time I open Firefox I'm shown at least 6 tabs worth of articles I was planning on reading later and am suddenly confronted with the fact that it is indeed, "later."
There are articles on my tab list now that have been waiting to be read for close to a month.
What is your favorite cover song?
Question submitted by Ray
Soooo many possibilities. Do I go hip and say Beck's cover of the Flaming Lips, "Do You Realize?" or the subtle beauty of Kat Powers covering Clapton's "Knocking on Heaven's Door?" How about the kookiness of Cake's, "Mahnamahna" or Nelly Furtado doing the ubiquitous "Crazy" by Gnarls Barkley.
Do I support one of my favorite musicians and say Mike Doughty's cover of Mary J Blige's "Real Love," or do I stay honest and tell you my favorite cover song is the king of cheese Tom Jones with the Cardigans singing "Burning Down The House" originally done by The Talking Heads.
Dear God, I'm a dork.If you could get someone in your life to start a blog, who would it be and why?
Hard to say. My Mom already blogs. My wife and brother have both taken various cracks at blogging in the past, as have several of my most opinionated and well spoken friends. (Marshall - we're waiting for you over here at vox). So I suppose that gives me the big ones I'd like to see blogging.
I've got a friend who've I've always had great conversations with. I think it'd be interesting to read the thoughts she has when I'm not there guiding the conversation with off color remarks. The fact she'll soon be leaving for India for two years just adds to the validity of the idea. Hmm... Maybe she needs a vox invite.
What or who is your favorite product mascot? Why?
I'm not quite at the Pattern Recognition level of hatred over mascots... but I'm not generally a fan of them. It upsets me when I hear about kids recognizing Joe Camel easier than Mickey Mouse... but it upsets me that Mickey Mouse is so recognizable too.
However, there's something pleasantly subversive about the farting finch of Songbird, the new open-source media player.
If you could open any sort of restaurant, what would it be like?
Frankly, I wouldn't - it seems like a huge pain in the ass, and the ramp up to success is steep. Though I always joked with my friends that we need to open a resturant where every course had some form of bacon in it.
Bacon... Kryptonite for humans.
Play any instrument or speak any language, which do you choose?
Question submitted by cruftbox.vox.com.
My immediate response is to say play any instrument. I love music, and have always been envious of the abilities of my favorite artists, as I can't carry a tune in a bucket. Besides, I'm guessing MOST of the people who respond to this question with the instrument answer are also going to say, "but music can express thoughts and emotions understandable in ANY language."
Bullshit.
I'd want to speak any language. Let's face it, I'm not a performer. I have no real interest in holding a spotlight on myself. My chosen role in any social situation, and in my career as a videographer/editor, is that of an observer. I love to understand motivations, ideas, and goals of those around me, and interpret them looking for some higher truth. I will always be in the background watching - and maybe trying to share what I've learned in quiet contemplation.
The ability to understand any language, and be able to communicate back with those I observe would be a phenominal gift, and one I suspect would go a long way to solving more of the world's problems than music if people put in the effort.
What's your favorite drink or cocktail? What's in it?
Question submitted by charm.vox.com
There are plenty of drinks I'd try, but fear they're just too damn fruity to order - then there are the hardcore drinks that I simply can't stomach (memories of college triggering bad feelings).
Generally I end up with a vodka tonic as a simple middle ground... though I might need to do a run through of this list before the summer's out (hey - I just answered the last TWO QotD!)
on the whole Muppet issue, I should also point out that.
- When I was five, I dressed up as Fozzie Bear for Halloween
- At my wedding I danced with my mom to The Rainbow Connection

Who is your favorite Muppet? Why?
QotD submitted by knitwitology.vox.com.
Oh crap... since my question was picked, I suppose I should answer it as well huh?
The Muppet Show was a family event for us. We'd all sit down as the curtains rose and that deep sax bleeted out those first bounding notes. At an early age I understood the concept of puppetry and marionettes, but those first full suited creatures lurching onto the screen always shocked me. The stand-out performer at that time? - the oafish, and decidedly intimidating Sweetums.
This wasn't your Sesame Street innocent like Big Bird. Sweetums was meant to scare. Though it wasn't until his turn as "Jack" in The Muppet Movie that his true nature as a misunderstood do-gooder fnally shone through.
Sweetums is the ultimate portrayal that you can't judge a
book by it's cover and a lesson I understood from an early age.
I think everyone from my generation has a favorite Muppet. It's a common touch-stone that spans cultures. I also tend to believe you can tell a lot about the person by whom they choose. I believe this to such a point that it's a question I'll invarivbly bring up within the first few conversations I have with anyone (and once polled my entire high school class on for an article in the school paper).
So once you're done with your answer, I'd encourage you to look around at the other responses... maybe you'll learn a deeper truth to your friends and neighbors.
(I'll also hold I kind place in my memmory for Beauregard)
